What this role looks like
Working alongside our lead marketing strategist, communications director, operations manager, and design team, you will play a central role in shaping how our clients communicate to their audiences.
You will lead the development and articulation of brand foundations for new and existing clients, including vision, mission and positioning statements, brand narrative, key messages and content pillars. From this strategic base, you will help shape and execute communications strategies that inform content direction, channels and asset development.
This is a hands-on role. You will be comfortable moving between big-picture communications thinking and day-to-day execution, and be confident prioritising work in a fast-paced agency environment. You will liaise closely with clients and collaborate with the Sketch Corp team, contributing structure and considered, high quality copy for projects and assets at every stage.
This is a four-day per week, fully remote role. That said, connection matters to us. There is an expectation that you will join the team in Brisbane at least once a month, where we come together in person for a couple of days to collaborate, plan and work side by side. And, from time to time, you’ll join some of our team when we travel to city and regional locations across the country to meet with our clients.
Key responsibilities
The role includes a broad range of copywriting and communications responsibilities, including:
- Crafting considered brand narratives and messaging frameworks
- Writing effective website copy, with a strong understanding of SEO best practice
- Writing blogs, news items and articles, always in a client’s brand voice and tone
- Developing copy for branded collateral, EDMs and social media
- Writing social and paid media campaign copy, drawing on strong experience and knowledge in writing for paid media
- Leading communications-led content strategies for clients
- Translating communications strategies into clear, actionable content deliverables
- Working closely with our designers to ensure copy and design are balanced, cohesive and intentional in applications
- Working closely with our social media manager to ensure social schedules align with broader communications and content strategy objectives
About you
This role suits an experienced marketing copywriter and communications professional who understands that strong copy is not decorative. It is strategic, deliberate and central to effective brand and marketing work.
Depth of experience across both long-form and short-form copy is essential, as is confidence working across digital and print. A strong grasp of how tone, structure and intent shift depending on brand, audience, platform and objective is assumed, along with a genuine care for getting it right. Clarity, grammar, precision, rhythm and choosing the right word rather than the easy one are part of how good work is produced.
Confidence working directly with clients is important. The role involves interviewing business owners, senior leaders and marketing managers, shaping meaningful stories from real conversations, presenting communications thinking, and facilitating discussions with clarity and authority.
For the successful candidate, collaboration comes naturally. This role works closely with our designers, strategists and project managers, and requires an understanding of how copy both shapes and is shaped by the wider creative and strategic process. Strong outcomes come from shared thinking, iteration and respect for each discipline’s contribution.
A thoughtful, pragmatic approach to AI is important. Language models are seen as tools that support workflow, ideation and consistency, rather than a replacement for strong writing or critical thinking. There is also an expectation that this role will contribute to the ongoing refinement and training of Sketch Corp’s AI models over time, helping to embed brand tone, writing standards and best-practice use across the team, and supporting more junior writers in using these tools well.
Experience in a brand or marketing agency environment is essential. Familiarity with project management systems, time tracking, shifting priorities and how to take on board and implement client feedback is important, as is an understanding that this feedback is part of agency life.
As a senior member of the agency, this role also carries responsibility to:
- Bring fresh thinking and new ideas to how we approach copy, storytelling, communication and content planning
- Help lift the standard and consistency of communications output across the agency
- Mentor junior team members in writing craft, structure, tone, narrative development and content planning
